Why the two sizes are often different
Tops and pants are drafted from different measurements. A pajama top is cut from the bust, shoulder and upper arm. Pants are cut from the waist and hip, and the rise and the inseam decide where the waistband actually sits. Two people with the same bust measurement can be two sizes apart at the hip, and a single size number cannot describe both.
